I’m Tiffany Clark, a trainer and behavior consultant who specializes in coaching caregivers to guide their dogs through the development of appropriate and desirable behaviors! For over 20 years, I’ve been a student of dogs…. their care, training, behavior, and health….all the fun stuff and even the not so fun stuff that goes along with being a responsible pet owner. Having a background education in psychology as well as taking great interest in biosophy, ethology, and neuroscience eventually led me to concept training - which is my primary methodology in working with dogs. I previously participated in protection sports and formal OB with my German Shepherds and have since moved on to the realm of scent work. I have my amazing dogs, both past and present, to thank for nudging me “down the rabbit hole” with their various struggles. I wouldn‘t be who or where I am today without them! The most meaningful aspect of my interactions in the world of dogs is helping them and their guardians connect, work through struggles, and just become an amazing team that has the confidence to face their daily realities whatever those may be.
I’ve thoroughly studied the works of great canine enthusiasts - Dr. Patricia McConnell, Karen Pryor, Shay Kelly, Dr. Laura Donaldson, Sindhoor Pangal, and many more - as well as been lucky enough to have some amazing mentors such as Susan Garrett, Suzanne Clothier, Denise Fenzi, and Jenny Gould to name a few. Additionally I’ve certified under renowned veterinary behaviorist Dr. Thomas Mitchell and top UK trainer Lauren Langman in an immersive training and behavior program. I continue to engage several times yearly in CPD, ensuring that I will always bring my clients the most effective and up to date information/methodology available.
One thing which became apparent very early on in my adventure in the world of dogs is that each and every dog has a unique personality, and often requires a different approach to their training. Traditional training methods do not address this need, and consequently lots of dogs are labeled as “stubborn”, “timid”, “stupid”, “dominant” or even “aggressive”, when really the issue lies in the approach. Owners are left feeling helpless and defeated, possibly thinking that they’ve failed their dogs. However, you don’t know what you don’t know, and what you will learn on our journey can lead to the transformation necessary to achieve the picture you’ve had in mind for you and your companion!
My methodology is based on uncovering the root of the struggles and then building up skills necessary to overcome those struggles. In this way, we are addressing the cause rather than the symptom. When we are able to see what our dogs weaknesses and strengths are, it becomes so much easier to equip ourselves and our dogs with the skills they need and to grow concepts which contribute to their ability in learning and making good choices. After all, dogs are not the simple minded and unfeeling creatures they were once thought to be. We have so much more knowledge and insight now that has revealed how deeply intelligent, emotional, and complex our dogs actually are - and this is fantastic because it allows us to grow even deeper and more enriching relationships with our canine companions! Educating/training your dog is a key component to their welfare, it’s about enhancing their quality of life by teaching them how to live in our world, which in turn enhances our quality of life!
